Antler thumb stick

Antler Thumb Stick

This stick has an antler top. The ends of the antler are capped off with buffalo horn. The shank is of hazel. An oak spacer is fitted between the shank and head. The shank was then polished with oil for protection. The average height of a thumb stick is about 48". Thumb sticks are often carried by deer stalkers to steady their binoculars or gun against. This is due to the long range that deer are shot at. (deer are not shot for their antlers), they casr them naturally each year after rutting between March and early May.
